Arshdeep Singh is an Indian professional cricketer who was part of India’s victorious campaign in the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup. He is also a left arm medium fast bowler.

During the Asia Cup between India and Pakistan on 5 November 2022, Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh came under fire for the catch he dropped with the bat of Asif Ali in the 18th over of the game.

 This dropped catch proved costly for Team India but he came back bravely and bowled a brilliant final over which kept India in the game till the last ball, in the end, India lost the match to Pakistan which angered Arshdeep Singh. Out.

Arshdeep Singh’s early life

Arshdeep Singh was born on February 5, 1999, in the Guna district of Madhya Pradesh to father Darshan Singh and mother Baljit Kaur. Arshdeep’s father is posted as Chief Security Officer in DCM by profession and his mother is a housewife. Arshdeep also has an elder brother who lives in Canada.

Arshdeep started playing cricket for his school at the age of 13. He has represented Chandigarh and Punjab cricket teams in state-level tournaments. His father Darshan Singh was actively involved in the early stages of his career.

Attachment to early education and cricket 

Arshdeep Singh completed his early studies at Guru Nanak Public School, Chandigarh. During his studies in school, Arshdeep’s attachment turned towards cricket, seeing Arshdeep’s awareness towards cricket, at the age of just 13, Arshdeep got a chance to play with his school’s cricket team. After performing well in school-level cricket, Arshdeep soon got a chance to play for his district Chandigarh and Punjab cricket team as well. His father Darshan Singh has a huge contribution to making Arshdeep a cricketer.

List A career of Arshdeep

Arshdeep Singh made his List A debut in the year 2018 against Himachal Pradesh. Arshdeep has scored 17 runs in 17 List A matches he has played so far. If we talk about bowling in a List A career, then Arshdeep has taken 21 wickets in 16 innings of 17 matches played at an average of 30.95 and an economy rate of 4.76. Arshdeep’s best performance in his List A career was 4 for 30.
After a stellar performance in his List A career, Arshdeep was selected for the Indian Under-19 Cricket World Cup squad. Arshdeep played a key role in helping the Indian cricket team win the tournament in the Under-19 World Cup.

After impressing everyone in the domestic circuit, Arshdeep Singh was snapped up by Kings XI Punjab. Arshdeep Singh made his debut against Rajasthan Royals at their home ground in Mohali, where the left-arm pacer picked up the wickets of Jos Buttler and Ajinkya Rahane, the two big Rajasthan Royals batsmen.

Arshdeep played 3 matches for KXIP in the 2019 season and was retained by the franchise ahead of the 2020 IPL auction.

Arshdeep’s first-class career

Arshdeep made his first-class debut in the 2019 Ranji season playing for Punjab. Arshdeep has played only 6 first-class cricket matches in his career so far. He has taken 21 wickets in 10 innings of 6 matches at an average of 24.71 and an excellent economy rate of 2.87. Arshdeep’s best performance in first-class cricket has been 5 for 33.

Arshdeep started playing cricket in 2012 at GNPS School, Chandigarh under coach Jaswant Rai. 

He took 13 wickets for Punjab in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and 19 wickets for Chandigarh in five matches in the Punjab Inter-District One Day Championship for the DP Azad Trophy in 2017.

 He made his international youth cricket debut in the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2017. Malaysia U19 on 10 November 2017 at Kuala Lumpur.

In 2017, Arshdeep also played for the India Red team in the U19 Challenger Trophy. It was a tournament that showcased his ability as a bowler as he picked up seven wickets including a five-wicket haul. That’s why this match brought him into the limelight.

During the group stage game of the 2018 U19 World Cup against Zimbabwe, Arshdeep had his best performance of the tournament, bowling at an economy rate of 1.43. 

He bowled 7 overs in which he conceded 10 runs to the opponents and also took 2 wickets. A few months later, he was included in the Punjab Under-23 team and made an impact with the ball, taking 8 wickets including a hat-trick against Rajasthan in the CK Nayudu Trophy. 

This prompted the selectors to include him in the Vijay Hazare state squad for 2018/19 and Arshdeep made a decent debut claiming 2 wickets against Himachal Pradesh.

Arshdeep’s IPL career 

Arshdeep Singh was selected by Punjab Kings in his team for the year 2019 IPL after a consistent performance in domestic cricket. Arshdeep got a chance to play in only three matches in the year 2019 IPL. Since then Arshdeep Singh has been a core part of the Punjab Kings team. Arshdeep Singh has played a total of 37 matches in his IPL career, taking 40 wickets in 37 matches at an average of 26.4 and an excellent economy rate of 8.35. Arshdeep’s best performance in IPL is 5 wickets for 32 runs.

International cricket career of Arshdeep Singh

After impressing everyone with his performance in all domestic tournaments, Arshdeep took 2 wickets for just 18 runs in 3.3 overs in his debut match against England at Southampton ground in the year 2022. Arshdeep was selected for the T20 series against the West Indies after a good performance on the England tour. He took 7 wickets in 5 matches against the West Indies at an impressive average of 16.14 and an excellent economy rate of 6.58. Arshdeep Singh was a part of the Indian cricket team in Asia Cup 2022, in Asia Cup Arshdeep took 5 wickets in 5 matches played for India. Arshdeep Singh had an economy rate of 8.07 in the Asia Cup.

After the Asia Cup, Arshdeep played a key role in helping India win the series by taking 4 wickets in 2 matches against South Africa. After performing brilliantly against South Africa, Arshdeep is wreaking havoc on the batsmen with his deadly bowling in the T20 World Cup held in Australia. So far in the 4 matches played in the T20 World Cup, he has taken 9 wickets at an excellent average of 14.66 and an excellent economy rate of 8.25. Indian cricket team’s next match in T20 cricket will be on 6th November and we expect Arshdeep to perform well in all the remaining matches. Talking about Arshdeep’s overall T20 performance, he has played only 17 matches in his T20 career so far, taking 28 wickets in 17 matches at an excellent average of 18.14 and an excellent economy rate of 8.17.

Arshdeep has so far played only the T20 format for the Indian cricket team, we hope that he will soon get a chance to play in the Indian ODI team and Test teams.
